Back on July 1, Omaha paramedic Brock Borhart was shot in the back of a rescue squad by a woman police say pulled a gun while being transported to the hospital.
Over the next three weeks each Omaha firefighter will learn basic self defense techniques and how to disarm someone who has a gun. Fire Department spokesman Brandon Wilson says it's the first time firefighters have ever received this type of training.
Wilson says the training is designed to protect firefighters until police can arrive on the scene.
The woman who shot Borhart is in jail on a number of charges.
