The Iowa Department of Transportation is working on a new smartphone app that would disable texting for teen drivers, and allow parents to track their child's behavior behind the wheel.
"There'll be a parent portal where a parent can log in with a secure ID so only they can see their child's information," says DOT's Tracy Bramble. "And what we're hoping it'll do is start a conversation between parents and kids about safe driving."
The app will be called "Text Later". They're now taking bids for development.
