News at the top of the hour, 6am - 1pm Monday thru Friday
Tony's glad to be back in Omaha after a stint in Atlanta, where he won an Associated Press Award for Best Newscast. He also worked for CNN Radio and the Georgia News Network.
In Omaha, Tony's been on the radio for decades, starting out on Sweet 98's Breakfast Flakes show and ending up with a long tour of duty on sister station KGOR. In addition to his KFAB duties, he also provides morning news on sister stations KGOR, KAT103 and 93.3 The Wolf. (Yes, he moves quickly thru the hallways.)
Tony lives in Omaha with his Beautiful Wife, Ronita... enjoying his awesome extended family and the world's greatest city!
One of the fun parts of my day is taking part in the Celebrity Birthdays segment on the Good Morning Show. But some days, there's not enough room to touch on all the folks of varying significance that were born on this day.
Jack Kirby is one of them. If he were still with us, he'd be 96 today. The man was simply the most creative force that ever sat in front of a drawing board. Without Jack, there would be no Captain America, no original X-Men, nor Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Inhumans, New Gods, and a whole lot more.
I met the man about ten years before he died, at a weekend comics show in North Carolina. I bought a Silver Surfer page of original art, which he signed for me. I wish I still had it.
But not as much as I wish we still had Jack to thrill us.
Happy birthday, King.
