The first weekend of Omaha Restaurant Week is well underway, but you have plenty of time through Sunday the 23rd to take advantage of the great menus, and great prices at dozens of restaurants all over the Omaha metro area.

One of the great features of the 2nd Annual Omaha Restaurant Week is that you can get a three course meal from $19, $29 or $39.  One of the higher end restaurants taking part for a second year is Jack Binion's Steakhouse at Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs. Whether you enjoy playing the slots or visiting the tables in C.B., Jack Binion's Steakhouse is an oasis in the casino.

A beautiful restaurant featuring those clam shell booths you would expect to see in a better steakhouse, as well as tables with comfortable chairs.  The room is romantically lit (that means dim but not too dark to read a menu) with a small candle lit at every table.

The service is attentive but relaxed. My waiter was Mike and Josh was his assistant.

The Restaurant Week price at Jack Binion's is $39 and you can choose from these offerings for a starter, entree, and dessert.

course options

first course options:

  • Shrimp Cocktail: Binion's cocktail sauce / lemon
  • House-Cured Bacon: Tomato and bacon jam
  • Wedge Salad: Iceberg lettuce / bacon / tomato/ Maytag blue cheese dressing

second course options:

  • Filet Mignon: 6 ounce, asparagus, Bearnaise sauce
  • Grilled Barbeque Chicken: Peach barbeque sauce / fingerling potato salad / lemon vinaigrette
  • Slow Roasted Prime Rib of Beef: 10 ounce / house-mashed potatoes / au jus

third course options:

  • Creme Brule: Fresh berries / vanilla caramel
  • Chocolate Gold Rush: Praline filling / dark chocolate mousse / almond sponge cake
  • Red Velvet Cheese Cake: Grand Marnier-marinated berries

For th first course, I had the shrimp cocktail.  The shrimp were fresh and huge....perfectly chillled and firm like a fresh, chilled shrimp should be. The homemade cocktail sauce was very tasty with just the right amount of zing.

For the main course I had the filet with asparagus in a bernaise sauce.

Don't be fooled by the size of the filet.  It is a large plate and it is hard to tell how thick the filet is (which it was). It was perfectly seasoned and needed no added seasoning.  Properly cooked to medium rare, this is a cut that you really don't want cooked to any more than a medium to truly appreciate the flavor.

For dessert,  circumstances happend to be that I was able to taste all three offerings. I cannot begin to tell you which to choose because they each were fantastic and each so totally different than the other. I will say that I so rarely get a chance to order creme brulee that I jumped at the chance and was glad that I did. I could only taste the others because I consumed the whole creme brule and really couldn't eat any more.  By the way, if you are too full for dessert at the end of your meal, they will  happily prepare it for you to take home, as they did for my wife.

So many restaurants to choose from during Omaha Restaurant Week, but I can certainly recommend you consider a visit to Jack Binion's Steakhouse in the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs.
