Iowa Lawmakers: No Budget Yet

Will legislators ever get to go home?

(AP) _

Republicans and Democrats in Des Moines agree on one thing _ they won't adjourn today as scheduled.

Disagreements over the Iowa state budget has left most lawmakers predicting it will be at least next week before they can resolve differences and adjourn the legislative session.

There is no deadline for ending the session, but lawmakers' expense payments end today.  Legislative sessions usually end about that time, though last year the session continued until the end of June, long past the scheduled adjournment.

Urbandale Republican Rep. Scott Raecker, who heads the House Appropriations Committee, says even if legislators could agree on budget deals, it would take some time for measures to work through the legislative process.
