The deal announced Tuesday will expand the training options for students at Creighton's medical school. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed Tuesday.

Creighton's Medical Center, which is one of two trauma centers in the Omaha, has been operated by the university's partner, Tenet Healthcare. Tenet owned 74 percent of the hospital.

Alegent runs 10 hospitals in the area. Creighton University Medical Center's CEO Gary Honts says it makes sense for the hospital to join Alegent's network of hospitals and doctors to better compete.

Alegent and Creighton say they expect to finalize the deal before July, but some details are still being negotiated.
