The female giraffe was born March 25
Zoo officials say despite round the clock care by Zoo Veterinarians and Animal Care Staff the female giraffe calf died early Wednesday morning. A second female giraffe calf born on March 16 is doing well and continues to be with its mom on display in the Giraffe Complex.
The calf that died suffered from multiple problems, including a bacterial infection. A necropsy, the animal equivalent of an autopsy, will be completed to determine the cause of death although it will take weeks to receive the results.
