Wanna-be thieves pull down the pole, but can't make off with the transformer.
Thieves apparently are willing to swipe just about anything, as drivers around 42nd and Seward found out Tuesday morning.
"It looks like somebody hooked up some straps and rope and tried to pull down a transformer, says Omaha fire captain Brad Hildebrandt. "The transformer hit the ground and began leaking... about 25 gallons of oil."
Hildebrand says the thieves were unsuccessful, but about two dozen customers living near 42nd and Seward were powerless for a while.
