An Omaha man has been given 100 years in prison for killing his girlfriend before trying to kill himself.
Mitchel Hadan on Tuesday was given 80 years for second-degree murder and 20 years on a weapons charge, to be served consecutively. Hadan had pleaded guilty after prosecutors lowered the murder charge and dropped a drug charge and another weapons charge.
Prosecutors say Hadan shot Rita Eckhout after police pulled over his vehicle on Jan. 1, 2011, and then he shot himself. Police say Hadan was high on methamphetamine.
