An overturned semi hauling cattle has shut down a portion of a major interstate while officials attempt to wrangle escaped cows.

Update - 5:30 pm.

The Nebraska State Patrol opened the northbound lanes on the JFK just before 5:30.  Southbound lanes reopened at 4 pm but then closed when more cattle were located.  They reopened at 5 pm.

Omaha Police believe that all of the cattle that escaped from an overturned livestock truck on northbound JFK and Q Street have been rounded up.

There were up to two-dozen cattle still inside the trailer and they are currently being transferred to another. Once the transfer is complete a head count will be done to make sure all are accounted for.

Southbound JFK at Q Street re-opened at 3:00 this afternoon. Northbound lanes remain closed.  Traffic is being rerouted.  The semi overturned around 10:30 this morning.  Cattle wranglers on horseback came to the scene to help round up the cows
