Navy Secretary attended this morning's ceremony along Omaha's riverfront
The Navy announced plans in February for five new ships. Mabus says the USS Omaha is a Littoral combat ship, which can operate in shallow and deep water.
The USS Omaha is the fourth Navy vessel to bear the name. Mabus says the ship one of the fastest and most agile in their fleet. They are designed to defeat threats such as mines, quiet diesel submarines and fast surface craft.
The USS Omaha is being built in Alabama and will hit the water in 2016. Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle and Congressman Lee Terry were on hand for the ceremony.
