Omaha continues to take steps to become a more bike-friendly community
The ribbon was cut this morning on the new bike lane project. Leavenworth Street is now two lanes of vehicle traffic and one lane designed specifically for bicycles
The new lane runs from 31st Street east to 13th Street. Leavenworth is one way traffic on that stretch. City officials say traffic volume in this area did not support having three lanes of vehicle traffic.
Bicycle enthusiasts say more people may pedal their way to work if they have more bike lane options. The city plans to add more in the coming years.
The goal of the Leavenworth Project is to connect downtown with densely populated areas in midtown.
