More Officers Patroling Elkhorn River Parks

Three NRD access parks in Douglas County will see an increased law enforcement presence the remainder of this summer.

John Winkler is the Papio-Missouri River NRD General Manager and says this summer's heat wave have brought many more people to their parks. “However, there are those who choose to break the recreation area rules and spoil the outdoor experience for others."

Winkler says the added Omaha Police officers and Douglas County Sheriff's deputies will hopefully make the park experience safer and more enjoyable for everyone.

He says littering, drinking and people not wearing their life jackets have become a big concern.  He says violators could be cited.

The three parks are Elkhorn Crossing, near 252nd and Bennington Road, Graske Crossing near West Dodge Road and the W. Maple Road River Access site. All three public parks are open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The hours are strictly enforced.
