Omaha Fire Department discouraging recreational fires
The fire started around 3:00 near Roberts Park at 78th and Western and quickly spread across the dry grass. Omaha Police blocked off traffic along Western for a few blocks when the fire headed toward the street. Omaha firefighters are on the scene.
This afternoon the Omaha Fire Department said open burning permits will be discontinued until further notice and residents in and around the metro area to be extra careful due to the higher than normal fire danger.
