(AP) —

Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley says taxpayers may not be getting the best deal possible on some equipment and services purchased by a state agency.

A new audit released Monday cites record-keeping errors and bidding problems within the Materiel Division of the Nebraska Department of Administration Services.

In one instance, state officials awarded a $13.8 million contract for photocopying equipment to a company based on a score it received while bidding. But Foley says the score was not properly documented, and a closer review of records indicates that the contract should have gone to a different company.

Department officials say they strongly dispute the audit's findings.
