A Sarpy County official is charged with theft for allegedly misusing a county gasoline card.

The county attorney's office has charged 56-year-old Patrick Clarke, of Bellevue, with taking over $1,500 in county property.

County Attorney Lee Polikov says Clarke is accused of using a county-issued gas card to fill up his personal vehicle from May 2011 to last month. Clarke is the county's fleet services director.

Polikov says Clarke had permission to use the card to fill up his county-issued vehicle, but county officials are forbidden from using the county's fuel pumps on their private cars.

Clarke was put on administrative leave on Sept. 26.
