Omaha police say the dog got out of a car after the owner fled from police during a traffic stop

It was quite a scene outside Miller Park Elementary School around 8:30 Tuesday morning.  Lt. Mike McGee tells 1110 KFAB they pulled a car over near 28th and Ellison because the driver had warrants.

McGee says the man got out of the car and ran.  During the foot pursuit the man's pitbull got out of the vehicle and began chasing the officers.  The officers, suspect and dog ran across the playground of the school as students were arriving for class.

McGee says they redirected students to one side of the building for their safety.  They were able to contain the dog in the rear of the school until the Humane Society arrived.

McGee says the man they were chasing got away and no one was injured.
