The Siena-Francis house had a record 501 men, women and children in their shelter Thursday night.
Francis House officials say it was the first time in the 37 year history of their organization that they provided overnight accommodations to 500 or more persons on one night.
The facility only has a total of 341 total beds. That means many homeless persons have to sleep on mats on the floor or in chairs. The Francis House provides overnight shelter to more homeless persons, on any given night, than the other Omaha homeless shelters combined.
