"We have about 80% of eligible voters in Nebraska who have registered", says John Gale. "That means 20% have dropped out."
Nebraska's top election official expects slightly more than 70% of the state's registered voters to cast ballots Tuesday.
But Secretary of State John Gale says that number looks less impressive when you factor in those who are eligible to vote, yet haven't registered.
"We have about 80% of eligible voters in Nebraska who have registered", says Gale. "That means 20% have dropped out."
"We try so hard, working with media, working with the campaigns and political parties, trying to reach every eligible voter, getting them to register. (But) there's always 15 to 20 percent, who have dropped out... won't participate."
Gale says a bit of preparation can make the voting process go more smoothly. He suggests taking a voter's guide or picking up a sample ballot before you enter the booth.
