The annual Holiday Lights Festival kicks off Thanksgiving night
Thursday's weather may not feel too festive, but in just a couple of weeks more than a million lights will be turned on in dowtown Omaha and the holidays will be here before we know it.
Mayor Jim Suttle will throw the switch that will light up several blocks around the Gene Leahy Mall. The six week festival will once again feature the Shine the Light on Hunger Campaign.
Con Agra Foods will once again have an ice rink on their campus and the proceeds will go to the Food Bank of the Heartland. Con Agra will also match donations up to $100-thousand. Blue barrels will be set up around downtown to collect food.
Con Agra spokesman Chris Kircher says the goal this year is to raise 1.1 million meals for needy people. Click holidaylightsfestival.org to see a complete list of activities for the festival.
