A 20-year-old Omaha man convicted in the fatal botched robbery of a marijuana dealer has been given life in prison.

A judge on Friday sentenced Ryan Elseman to life and to 25 to 30 years for the weapons count.

Elseman had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and a weapons charge in the slaying of 25-year-old Kristopher Winters in July 2011.

Prosecutors say Elseman, Marqus Patton and three others planned to steal Winters' marijuana. Investigators say Patton and Elseman pistol-whipped Winters and that Elseman shot Winters when he tried to fight back.

Patton was convicted on Tuesday and will be sentenced in January.
