27 cases confirmed through November
Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour says normally at this time of year there are five or fewer cases. She says the flu cases are almost evenly split between type-A and type-B.
“It is too early to say for sure what these numbers mean,” Dr. Pour says. “The flu season usually last two or three months and peaks in February or March, so it is not too late to be vaccinated.”
With many people planning holiday gatherings, she recommends everyone six months of age and older to get vaccinated now. It takes about two weeks for the vaccine to begin protecting.
“Flu vaccine is rigorously tested and very safe,” Dr. Pour says. “Vaccine provides your best protection from the flu.”
