Iowa City police have used DNA on socks left at the scene of a grocery burglary nearly three years ago to make an arrest in the case.

Police arrested 24-year-old Samuel Lockett on Wednesday on suspicion of burglary, criminal mischief and theft.

The case began when officers were called to the store in February 2010 for an alarm. Officers found two broken windows and a large black bag containing stolen items such as liquor, cigarettes and change from a register drawer. Police also found three black socks in the bag, which were sent to a crime lab for analysis.

Police say DNA on the socks pointed to Lockett.
