OPPD Board Approves Rate Hike

Residential customers will see a 7.7 percent increase

The board voted unanimously on Thursday to increase the electric costs of customers. That amounts to $7.31 a month for an average customer.

The cost will be a little less for commercial customers.  Utility officials say the increase was necessary to make up for a $60 million shortfall in the budget, due mainly to repairs and upgrades to the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Plant.

The plant was damaged by flooding in 2011 and is still shut down.
