Mark Evans, superintendent of the Andover, Kansas Public Schools, has been picked to run the Omaha Public School District

The OPS Board voted 10-0 Monday night to make Evans the new superintendent of OPS.

Evans was one of three finalists after a nationwide search to replace former Des Moines Superintendent Nancy Sebring, who resigned before her start date following an email scandal.

Dr. John Mackiel held the post for 15 years before retiring in August.  Currently, Dr. Virginia Moon is serving as the interim superintendent.

District officials say they will have a "Welcome to Omaha" event to introduce the superintendent-elect to students, staff, parents and the Omaha community in the near future.
