Water from the hoses quickly iced over, creating slipping hazards in the area.
Omaha firefighters responded to a blaze at a vacant building near 20th and Castelar early Wednesday morning.
Channel 6 News reports the call about the smoke in the area came in just before 6 a.m. Firefighters had to search for the source and found it at the old Arrow Pawn and Loan building. It was contained to the second floor and under control within the hour.
However, a second crew had to be called in to relieve firefighters who struggled in the single digit temperatures. Water from the hoses quickly iced over, creating slipping hazards in the area.
