Recycling centers for Christmas trees are now open in several Nebraska cities.
The city of Lincoln will accept trees at seven sites through Jan. 13. A local tree service will turn them into free mulch, which is available on a first-come, first-served basis starting on Jan. 14.
In Omaha, the group Keep Omaha Beautiful is accepting trees at 11 local sites on Dec. 29 and 30, and Jan. 5 and 6.
Sarpy County is advertising tree collection sites in La Vista, Papillion, Bellevue and a wildlife management area at Wehrspann Lake.
