Police in Omaha are reminding residents near an elementary school that its latest recruitment class is finishing active shooter training.
The Omaha Police Academy says the two-day training finishes Thursday at Pine Creek Elementary School just north of the city. It will involve practicing tactics before participating in active shooter scenarios. The scenarios will involve firearms that fire blanks but make realistic sounds.
Officials say they will have signs around the school reminding the community that it's a controlled exercise.
The training has been planned since November.
