Police say a woman ran a red light and struck the police cruiser
The accident happened at 23rd and L Street at around 1:30 Wednesday. Investigators say officer James Stokes, a 21 year veteran, was westbound on L Street in his marked cruiser.
According to a witness a car being driven northbound on 23rd Street ran the red light and struck the driver’s side of the cruiser. Officer Stokes was transported to UNMC by another officer to be checked out for soreness to the left side of his body.
Speed and alcohol were not factors. The driver of the Corolla, 61 year old Sandra Peralta, was cited for No Operator’s License, No Valid Registration, and Wheel Tax. She refused transport from the scene.
