The Archdiocese of Omaha says it's taking the next steps in an investigation into child sex abuse allegations against a Bellevue priest.
An Archdiocese spokesman says two canon lawyers will help Archbishop George Lucas determine whether the complaint against 53-year-old Alfred Salanitro is valid.
Salanitro was the priest at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bellevue in 2011 when a Carter Lake, Iowa, man said Salanitro sexually abused him between 1991 and 1994. Salanitro, who denies the allegation, has been on leave since the complaint was filed.
Law enforcement is also investigating the complaint. On Friday, the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests blasted the Omaha archbishop, saying Catholic officials should not "drag their feet in child sex abuse cases."
