Two house fires on Thursday proved to be challenging for firefighters in Omaha and Sarpy County
It was about 15 degrees when Omaha firefighters rolled up to a house fire near 41st and Pacific Thursday afternoon. Heavy black smoke was puring out of the side of the house.
Battalion Chief Joe Mancuso says a person living there made it out safely. The fire started in the basement and spread to the first floor. He says the entire house sustained either smoke or fire damage.
Earlier in the day a three alarm fire broke out at a house in Springfield. The owner of the house was reportedly out of the country at the time. The entire home was destroyed. There were no injuries in either fire.
Mancuso says the extreme cold caused icy conditions for firefighters, but none of them were injured.
