A would-be home intruder was shot and killed by the homeowner late Thursday night near 16th and Drexel.

Around 11:30pm a man started pounding on the door of the south Omaha home.  When a woman went to answer the door, the man allegedly tried to force his way into the residence.  The husband of the woman came downstairs and shot the man. He was taken to an Omaha hospital in critical condition.  Initially he was expected to live, but later died.

Police have not yet released any names of the parties involved in the incident.
