Downtown Power Outage Continues

Nearly 100 customers remain in the dark

The picture shows manhole covers being blown off, which led to Sunday night's fire and power outage in downtown Omaha.  OPPD crews are still on the scene making repairs.

At one point, nearly 3-thousand OPPD customers were without power.  That number was down to 100 as of Monday afternoon. OPPD officials are hopeful power can be restored by the end of the day.

The outage forced the Douglas County Courthouse to be closed today.  It also impacted MUD's headquarters and OPPD's Energy Plaza.

Omaha Police say the outage could affect the afternoon commute.  Generators have been brought in for some of the busiest intersections and will continue to bring in more if needed.  Portable stop signs have been placed in the middle of all other intersections with non-working traffic signals.

Police urge people to drive cautiously, and be aware of pedestrians.
