The construction crane tipped over along the Missouri River near LaPlatte Road in Sarpy County

Bellevue Fire officials say a crane operator working on the Missouri River bridge project was trapped inside his seat when it tipped over.

Battalion Chief Joe Gibilisco two workers who were on the tip of the crane 100 feet in the air were thrown into the Missouri River.  They were able to swim about 30 feet to shore and refused treatment.

Gibilisco says workers stabilized the crane with another crane and some cables and used cutting torches to free the crane operator.  He was rushed to the hospital, but his condition is not known.

The accident happened just north of the Platte River where a new Missouri River bridge is being built.
