Elementary school children help celebrate the one month birthday of the five African lion cubs at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo
The two males and three females were born on December 29 and are on display in Cat Complex. Today's lion-style party included "lion cupcakes" made with meat and served by the zookeepers that care for the cubs.
Bancroft Elementary students blew out the candles and sang Happy Birthday to the cubs.
The cubs weigh between 7.5 and 11.1 pounds. One of the female cubs receives a supplemental feeding once a day when the adult lions are shifted off display.
Forty-eight hours after she was born, she spent eight days in the hospital when she wasn’t competing well for food.

After receiving fluids and round the clock care, she was put back with her siblings, mom, and aunt. Zoo Director Dennis Pate says the cubs are doing well and moving around a lot more. They are all on display inside the Cat Complex.
