Omaha police say 83 year old Raymond Vasholz died at the hospital after suffering injuries during this mornings house fire. His wife, 76 year old Elizabeth Vasholz remains in critical but stable condition and was transferred to a Lincoln burn center.
Firefighters were called about 9:00 a.m. to a home near 33rd and Ernst in Florence. Assistant Fire Chief Dan Stolinski says a woman was found in the front yard with soot on her face. She also was suffering from smoke inhalation.
Paramedics also found a man down inside the house and pulled him out. Stolinski says he also suffered severe smoke inhalation. The couple is believed to be in their 60's. Both were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The fire started near the kitchen and Police Lt. Darci Tierney says a man at the scene was taken downtown for questioning. At this point, Tierney doesn't know how the three may be related, if at all.
