Bellevue City Councilman Scott Houghtaling has announced that he will resign from the Bellevue City Council effective March 31, 2013.

In a statement, Houghtaling said he was stepping down to take over a greater responsibility at work.

"Unfortunately due to the passing of my boss and close colleague, I have been asked to accept a now vacant position. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve on the City Council and I am proud of the work we did together. I have thoroughly enjoyed my association with the Council and sincerely thank my fellow Council members, city staff and the citizens of Bellevue for the opportunity to serve the last five years."

Houghtaling has been the Bellevue City Councilman for Ward I since 2008. He was re-elected to his second term in 2012.
