An Omaha teen was stopped last Friday near 156th and Q

The Nebraska State Patrol says just after 4:00 p.m. on March 8 their helicopter clocked a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle traveling 139 mph in a 55 mph zone north on Highway 6 near the Sarpy/Douglas County line.

Troopers conducted a traffic stop in west Omaha. The 18-year old driver was cited for willful reckless driving, speeding, no proof of insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle and no motorcycle endorsement.

“As we move into spring and summer, we typically see an increase in motorcycles on our roads,” said Colonel David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “While motorcycles have the same rights and privileges as other vehicles on the road they must also obey the same rules as well.”

The Patrol says all riders must have a motorcycle endorsement and that state law requires motorcycle riders and passengers to wear a DOT compliant helmet.
