A new online tool shows the best location to plant a tree
The Omaha Public Power District is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to educate people about the energy savings trees can provide.
Customers can order a Norway Spruce, Ohio Buckeye, Swamp White Oak or Eastern Redbud. There is a limit of one per customer and trees will be delivered at no charge in 2-4 weeks.
The online tool will also allow customers to see an aerial property view that will show the most energy efficient spot to plant a tree. The feature also calculates the anticipated monthly savings now and in 20 years as the tree matures.
"Trees can reduce energy consumption during summer by shading their home and reduce heating costs in the winter by sheltering their home from wind," says OPPD Vice President Tim Burke.
