24 apartment units were destroyed near 146th and West Maple.

Omaha firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze Thursday morning at the Hillsborough Apartments near 146th and West Maple Roads.

Two firefighters were momentarily trapped when the third-floor ceiling collapsed on them.  A four-man crew got them out... but then, the rescuers were themselves caught by a collapsing wall.  All got out okay... the rescuers were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Investigators say 24 apartments were destroyed, leaving 30 people without a home.  The Red Cross is assisting them this afternoon.

No word yet on what caused the fire, but another building nearby caught fire back in December.  There's no word yet on whether the two might be linked.
