24 apartment units were destroyed near 146th and West Maple.

Omaha firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze Thursday morning at the Hillsborough Pointe Apartments near 146th and West Maple Road.

The situation turned dangerous as two firefighters were momentarily trapped when the third-floor ceiling collapsed on them.  Captain Tim McCaw says a four-man rescue crew managed to get them out. But they were then hit by a collapsing wall.

After clearing the debris, they were able to climb out of the burning building.  All of the firefighters are fine, only minor injuries reported.

Investigators say 24 apartments were damaged and 30 residents were left without a home.  The Red Cross is providing assistance.

No word yet on what caused the fire.  It's the second one at this apartment complex in the last three months. Back in December another building was heavily damaged.
