Powerful thunderstorms early Tuesday morning damaged the Calvin T. Ryan Library and the fine arts building
University of Nebraska at Kearney spokesperson Kelly Bartling tells 1110 KFAB that University professionals and private contractors have assessed the damage caused early Tuesday morning.
Winds severely damaged the roof to Calvin T. Ryan Library and the Fine Arts Building. Barbara Johnson, vice chancellor for business and finance, says the library will remain closed on Wednesday and is scheduled to re-open on Thursday.
The Mitchell Center, which is adjacent to the library, will also remain closed at least until Thursday. Johnson said the weather has made it difficult to assess the full extent of the damage, including structural engineering.
“I am appreciative of the work of the many staff and contractors today that assisted in cleaning the campus and surrounding areas of debris to make it safer for our students, faculty and staff to remain on campus,” Johnson said.
