A man and a woman wanted for a string of robberies in Minnesota and South Dakota were arrested near Cozad, Nebraska Monday afternoon
The Nebraska State Patrol says a trooper spotted a vehicle traveling westbound on I-80 near the Lexington Interchange.
The vehicle and plate number matched the description of a car wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies. The trooper called for backup and continued to follow the vehicle as it exited the Interstate at the Darr Interchange in Dawson County.
The vehicle traveled north to Highway 30 and headed west. The driver pulled to the shoulder, but the troopers approached, the vehicle sped off.
After a short pursuit the suspect vehicle experienced engine trouble and pulled to the side of the road near Cozad.
24 year old Jarrod Birch of Virginia Beach, Va. and 19 year old Alyssa Beard of Virginia Beach were taken into custody. Three handguns and burglary tools were found in the vehicle. The guns are believed to have been used during recent robberies in Minnesota and South Dakota.
Birch was booked for felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of stolen property.
Beard, who was listed as a missing person out of Virginia, was booked on charges of possession of stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.
