Living history weekends start soon at Ft. Atkinson near Ft. Calhoun.
FortAtkinsonStateHistoricalPark is preparing for another living history weekend.
Re-enactors will portray life at an 1820's military post. There will be blacksmiths, coopers, soldiers, weavers, fur trappers and others. The weekend will feature a presentation by Mark Kelly, author of the book, "Lost Voices on the Missouri, John Dougherty and the Indian Frontier."
The event runs from to on May 4-5.
FortAtkinson was established in 1820, the first military post west of the Missouri River. It is located on U-S Highway 75 near FortCalhoun. A park entry permit is required and may be purchased at the park.
