Several inches of snow has already fallen in far northeast Nebraska
A winter weather advisory will go into effect for the metro area at 9:00 Wednesday night and will continue through 10 a.m. Thursday.
According to Channel 6, wet conditions are expected through the evening Wednesday with temperatures slowly fall back into the 30s. The strong northerly winds will make it feel even colder.
The rain will mix with sleet by 11 p.m. After midnight the rain and sleet will transition to snow and linger for several hours Thursday morning.
Channel 6 says the best chance for snow accumulation will be on the grassy surfaces and the heaviest snow will likely fall between 1-8 a.m. Thursday. The snow could fall fast enough to see some slushy spots on secondary roads, but most of the main roads should remain wet.
Snow fall in Omaha in May is a rarity. It has happened only four times in recorded history.
