Friday marked opening day for the new Infield at the Zoo project
Friday marked a new beginning for the site where Rosenblatt Stadium stood for more than 60 years.
Infield at the Zoo is a replica of the historic ball park and includes a little league sized field, nearly 100 of Rosenblatt's red, yellow and blue seats and the arch shaped Rosenblatt sign.
Home plate is exactly where it was at the old stadium and the right and left field foul poles remain in their same spot. Today's grand opening was highlighted by a special on field ceremony.
Johnny Rosenblatt's great grandson Josh threw out the first pitch to his grandfather Steve. Omaha City Councilman Garry Gernandt says he appreciates the efforts that were made to keep Rosenblatt Stadium's memory alive.
"I thank you for not concreting the memories of Rosenblatt under, but actually cementing them into the hearts and minds of everybody that grew up with Rosenblatt.
