The Sarpy County Attorney says the officers involved in the May 31 shooting will return to work on Monday
The shooting happened when officers went to check on the well being of a man who had been making numerous threats inside his apartment near 84th and Highway 370.
Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov says 25 year old Dennis Thomas came out of his apartment armed with a knife and highly agitated. He says Thomas assaulted Papillion Officer Robert Morrell, who fired a shot as he was falling back on the stairs.
That shot hit Thomas in the left side. Polikov says at the same time officer Matthew Elsasser fired one round that missed Thomas. Both officers and Sergeant Jerry Prazan were placed on administrative leave after the shooting.
Now that Polikov has determined there was no criminal wrongdoing, all three officers will return to work on Monday. Thomas will face criminal charges for assault when he is released from the hospital.
