Cory Cooper was fired in May by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.
A former Douglas County sheriff's deputy turned himself in Monday morning and was booked for first-degree sexual assault.
Cory Cooper was fired in May by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department for conduct unbecoming an officer.
According to an Omaha Police report the assault happened February 10 at Lake Zorinski Park. They say Cooper was on duty driving a marked Douglas County Sheriff's cruiser when he encountered the 19 year old woman and her boyfriend in a parked vehicle.
After contacting and questioning the couple, Police say Cooper escorted the female back to his cruiser where the sexual assault took place.
Sheriff Tim Dunning says "his conduct was shocking and the Sheriff’s Office fully supports his arrest. Law enforcement officers are here to protect the Public, not prey on them."
The 29 year old Cooper had served as a deputy for nearly five years.
