Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine has charged Jefferson Potter with manslaughter
Potter was arrested after trying to run from the stolen lawn care truck that investigators say he was driving when it slammed into three vehicles at Saddle Creek and Leavenworth last Friday.
After stealing the truck from a lawn crew near 33rd and Arbor, Omaha Police say Potter was driving at a high rate of speed when he slammed into a car driven by Ryan Ashburn. Ashburn's girlfriend, Jennifer Siemens died from her injuries.
After hitting two other cars and injuring other motorists, Potter tried to run but was quickly caught. Police say Potter had a gun in his possession. In addition to manslaughter, Potter is charged with theft by unlawful taking and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Potter was on parole at the time of the incident. He could spend 90 years in prison if convicted.
