Omaha Public Power District crews continue to work to get the power back on to tens of thousands who lost service during this morning’s strong thunderstorm.
About 25,400 OPPD customers remain without service. That is down from 52,000 during the peak of the storm at 10 am. As of 6 pm Monday, OPPD tells 1110 KFAB there were 1,525 incidents, such as downed power lines or other equipment problems causing those outages.
OPPD has 53 crews in the field working to repair power. They are also receiving help from crews coming in from the Lincoln Electric System, NPPD and from Southern Power District. Even with the extra help it is difficult to estimate as to when service will be restored to every customer.
MidAmerican Energy in Council Bluffs is also making progress getting service restored. There were about 5,000 customers without service shortly after the storm. As of Monday evening 2,800 customers were without service.
